Tim Burton:
Orb Monster

Client: Tim Burton and The Neon Museum
Services Provided: Design, Machining, Fabrication, Installation

The client came to us with a 1/16th scale model of the desired sculpture to be displayed at The Neon Museum in Las Vegas. The client gave us free reign on the materials, so we got creative with it.

The iPad controlled integrated lighting was designed to be on a 12-hour loop and were very specific to the museum’s specifications.

To scale the client’s miniature model, we created construction drawings to scale up proportionately.

To allow the client to choose their desired color, we created color renderings that could be changed easily.

The sculpture needed to be durable and strong to be craned in, so we built a steel structure that the foam details could be attached around.

The “rib legs” and teeth profiles were cut using our CNC plasma cutter to be accurate and proportionately correct to the miniature.

Once lifted onto the site, the mouth was bolted and an epoxy putty was used to make the joints seamless.
